We want to make sure that the people using Herdly to view or change your ranch's data are authorized by you to do so. To accomplish this, we require users to log in. This can work in several different ways, depending on the device and situation.
In every situation, your account credentials will be required. Normally you would enter your username and password for the account credentials. However, it is also possible to receive a temporary code which is equivalent to your username and password for a limited amount of time. See Users to learn how a temporary code can be created.
On both the computer and mobile device, any place a username and password can be entered, there will be an alternative to use a temporary code instead. For example, on the computer you can click the Temporary Code button in the log in window.
After installing Herdly on a new device, Herdly will not know what ranch you want it to connect to. To log in, you will need to supply the ranch ID along with your account credentials (or temporary code). If you do not know the ranch ID, please ask an administrator on your ranch. If they don't know it, they can find it by looking in the bottom left corner of the Ranch Settings window on a computer or by going to Settings > About Herdly on a mobile device.
If you are on a computer you can log out by going to File > Log Out. You will also automatically be logged out when you quit Herdly on the computer.
A mobile device is a little different in that you will continue to be logged in unless you specifically go to Settings > Logout, even if you quit Herdly.
You should log out when you are finished using Herdly in the following two cases:
If a device has been logged out, you can log back in with your user credentials or temporary code. In this case it is not necessary to supply your ranch ID as Herdly already knows that.
