Remove From Herd Action

Watch this video to get a brief overview of the Remove From Herd action. The text below goes into more detail.

This action can be used to record a sale or for any other reason animals were removed from the herd. It can be used on multiple animals at the same time.

If you use the Record Death action on an animal, Herdly will automatically remove the animal from the herd if this hasn't already been done and guess at the removal reason, so you don't always have to use this action when an animal is dies.

Starting the Action

This action can be used on both computers and mobile devices. To learn how to start an action, please see Actions.

First select the animals you are selling or removing from the herd. This is often easiest when you use a filter first. Then you can start this action. It will only be available if at least one animal is selected. Also, all selected animals must be current.

On mobile devices, the Remove From Herd action is found under the Stages tool bar item.

Action Fields

All of this action's fields are listed below. If any are required to have a value, that is noted. If there is any special information about the field that you need to know for this action, it is also noted. More general information about all of the fields can be found in the Field Descriptions topic.

If any of the selected animals have a withdrawal, a warning will be shown at the top of the action.

  • Remove From Herd.
    • Removal Date. Required.
    • Removal Weight.
    • Weight Type.
    • Removal Reason.
    • Sold To. If the animal was sold, you can record who it was sold to. This links to a contact, so it must have been created beforehand.
    • Sale Price (per Head).
    • Removal Note.
  • CCIA Information. If these fields are used, the CCIA move out event that is created will include this information.
    • Destination Premise ID. The premise ID for where the animals are going.
    • Vehicle ID. The vehicle ID (license plate) that is transporting the animals.

When you have finished filling in the fields in this action, use the Save button to save your information. The removal information for each selected animal will be updated. It also updates the animal's status and removes it from the breeding pool if needed.

If you made a mistake when using this action, you can correct it with the Edit Animal action.

If you are set up (in the Ranch Settings window) so that Herdly automatically creates CCIA events, Herdly will attempt to create a move out event for the animal. It will only be successful if you have entered your CCIA account information in the Ranch Settings window and if the animal has an RFID tag.
